No Scheduled El Shutdowns Until Spring 2009

SEPTA Thanks You for Your Patience

SEPTA’s $710 Million reconstruction of the Market Street El is dramatically changing the look of West Philadelphia and eastern Delaware County. The project, which is nearly 85% complete, includes replacing 11,000 feet of the current structure with new single-beam supports, replacing six existing stations, constructing two new Automatic Train Control buildings (completed in 2001) and other related improvements. At street level, a brand new, streamlined single-column structure will greatly improve traffic flow. At track level, SEPTA riders will enjoy new, brightly lit, colorful, fully accessible stations.

By the end of 2007, nearly 3/4 of the old structure was replaced.  By the end of 2008, all of the track will have been replaced.

Brand new stations at 60th, 52nd, 56th, 46th Streets and Millbourne are open. 63rd Street Station is closed for about a year, so that a new station can be built at this location.  The entire project is expected to be complete in 2009.

If you have any questions please visit the Community Information Center (CIC) at its Two New Locations: at 56th Street Station, Mezzanine Level (215-580-6484) or at The Enterprise Center, 4548 Market Street (215-243-4141).
